Убежище для жертв пострадавших от домашнего насилия

Every third woman in Belarus is subjected to physical violence from loved ones, not to mention other types of violence - sexual, psychological, and economic. They are mocked not by strangers, but by the closest ones - parents, husbands, children, brothers. Only a third of women affected seek help. Some are so intimidated that they are afraid to go to the police, others are ashamed. And often a woman simply does not believe that someone can help her.

The problem is aggravated by the fact that Belarus has not yet adopted a law on the prevention of domestic violence. Even after contacting the police, a woman does not become more protected from an aggressor. The vast majority of offenses simply end in a fine (which is often paid from the general family budget). In order to obtain a restraining order (prohibiting the aggressor from any contact with a victim of violence), you need to go through a whole procedure, and not in every case it can be obtained at all (for example, if the spouses are divorced). and no longer live together, and the violence continues). The courts set the victims up for reconciliation, psychologists and other specialists often try to “save” the family, corrective work with the aggressors is carried out only in a few cities of Belarus.

Every second woman who goes to a shelter for help thinks that she has no way to save herself and her children from violence.

How to solve the problem. In order for a woman to escape from an aggressor, she and her children need temporary protection and professional help to gain economic and psychological independence.

Who is solving the problem. A nonprofit organization creates a Vault. This is a house where a woman from any corner of Belarus can come with children at any time of the day and get help absolutely free.

Psychological help: psychologists help to get out of the crisis and find the strength to arrange a new life for themselves and their children.

Legal assistance: lawyers advise a woman, lawyers accompany her in court, help resolve issues with divorce, division of property, the establishment of custody of children and the procedure for communicating with the father.

Assistance in employment: the project, if necessary, helps to pay for the training of a new profession and find a job so that a woman does not depend financially on the aggressor, if necessary, she has the opportunity to move to another city, rent a house and provide for herself and her children on her own.

Helping children: the project's psychologist helps children cope with trauma caused by domestic violence; a nanny looks after the children while their mothers study, look for work, solve housing issues in order to start an independent life.

How can you help?

To give women the opportunity to escape the aggressor, you can support the Shelter project. As a result, thanks to your translations, women and children will be able to start a new life - without violence. At the expense of the project, women will undergo advanced training courses and master a new profession, and the specialists of the Shelter will help them find work.
