Hey everyone, as some of you may already know (due to my excitement), I will be spending a month of my summer volunteering in a children's orphanage in Sri Lanka. I will be embarking on this incredible journey on 14th August along with two of my best friends, Jess and Sarah. We will arrive in the countries capital, Colombo, on the 15th August before travelling south to the town of Ambalangoda where the orphanage is situated. From then on I will be volunteering daily in orphanage, teaching the children English, organising and playing games/sports activities, along with providing the love and care these children have been deprived of.  The orphanage accommodates children between the ages of 5-16, not all of these children have lost both of their parents, and many have been rescued from broken homes and abusive families or have been given up by their families due to severe financial circumstances. Over the duration of this project I aim to give the children the support and encouragement they deserve and be a positive role model for them to look up to and rely on during our stay. I know my time in the orphanage will be very precious and I intend to make the most of every moment.  This adventure is hosted by Plan My Gap Year, an independent volunteering organisation. It does not receive any funding from the Government and therefore the Fees I will pay cover the costs of implementing, monitoring and mainitaining the orphanage. The orphanage relies massively on help from volunteers and therefore, as part of our fundraising, we have decided to take on the challenge of climbing Britain's largest Munro, Ben Nevis- ahh!! We imagine this could be a tough climb for three freshers!! However we are prepared to ache for days on end in order to raise as much money as possible and reach our goal of making a positive difference to the lives of the children. My decision to do this was not taken lightly, I know it will be eye opening and most likely a completely life changing experience, however seeing the smiles on the children's faces will be a rewarding memory I will hold forever. So PLEASE support us and donate generously, every little counts, even pennies will make a great difference to the lives of these children. Thank you
