Woodbridge High School Alums Help the Armstrong Foundation Provide Buses for Low Income Middle School Students to Travel and Run in SoCal 5ks!
In the Beginning
On a chilly December day in 2010, about thirty-five 12- and 13-year-olds boarded a bus by 5:30 a.m. and traveled to Tustin, CA to run in the “Make Room for Santa” 5k event. Although Tustin is only 20 miles from their neighborhoods, many had never been there.
They came in whatever clothes and sneakers they had. On that cold December morning, our kids ran their hearts out. Why?
Because they were part of something new, something challenging! They had joined RUNSTRONG, the after-school running club at their middle school, sponsored by the Kevin Armstrong, M.D. Memorial Sports Foundation. Just like the runners, the RUNSTRONG Program was off to an exciting start! The program is based upon documented evidence that physical activities, such as running, boost not only children’s self-esteem and self-confidence but are also key in developing cognitive skills such as planning, organizing, and the persistent effort needed to reach goals.
What We Need Now
Help us make 2015 a great year for our eager kids. Your contribution will provide the transportation for over 200 middle school students and empower them to train, compete and realize they can accomplish whatever they put their minds and hearts to.
Thank you for helping to make a difference!
