My Story of How the Housing Collapse has Ruined Me

By Kristin Bain

Hello, my name is Kristin Bain and this is my story about the how the housing collapse has ruined me. Back in 2006, I had seen an advert for a nice condo for rent near my work. I inquired and found out that if I wanted to buy it in a year, I could. So, my fiancé and I moved in and made the rent payments. A year later (May of 2007) we were fortunate enough to be able to buy the condo and I was approved for a loan. Well, not all was as it seems. I ended up with the worst interest rate possible at 11 and half percent with payments of $1,725.00 a month. There I was, making the payments and working my butt off to make the payments. Things happened, I was laid off twice in the matter of one year and the job market changed for me dramatically. I ended up taking several part time jobs making was less then I use to make and started to fall behind my payments. That’s when things really got hairy and I tried to get the mortgage company to work with me and get my interest rate changed, but they refused to help me. I decided at that point, enough was enough and contacted a lawyer at the end of 2008. Well, several years later the case is still ongoing. I am still working two part time jobs and I am doing my part, but Mortgage Electronic Systems (MERS) and Deutsche Bank flat out refuse to work with and they both have refused any offers to settle any debt to get caught up. MERS for the longest time claimed to not know who the note holder was so I could make payments and they claimed they could be the trustee for the note holder (even though they didn’t who it was), which is against the law in Washington State. As stated in this article here when the case was taken to the Washington Supreme Court: http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2018934163_mers17.html

After the decision was made, the Supreme Court made a ruling on the matter. Deutsche Bank finally stepped forward in the foreclosure process and filed a different suit. They are trying their best to back us in a corner and so far the outlook is not good. They have expressed interest in collecting the amount of what they think the property is worth. Which is at a current value of $115, 000; but they think its $200,000 and I think I can get to them take some sort of an offer. MERS and now Deutsche Bank are trying their best to make an example out me by trying to prove that no one can win against them. They are not use to people trying to resolve the issue and fighting back. Most people usually surrender and that’s usually when people like them will do anything in their power such as filling false paperwork just to take over a property. Here are the stories in the media, the wiki article I am in and the day I went to the Supreme Court:

For the longest time I have stayed silent in the background as people have talked about my case but no one really knows what a true hell it has been living it. So here I am, Kristin Bain, making my plea. They are trying to foreclose on me by the end of the year and I am trying to make an offer to get them to settle once and for all. I am hoping to raise $220,000 to cover attorney’s fees and pay off the amount that I owe. If you can not only help our cause for both my fiancé and I to stay in our lovely home by spreading this via social networking, we can really use your help that way as well. Word of mouth in this case can be very powerful. This is our home and we are trying are hardest to keep our home! Any donation will help.

Also, I would like to acknowledge stopforeclosurefraud.com for following my case through and though. Please let everyone know!

Thank you,

Kristin Bain

  • Having been through foreclosure and bankruptcy not so very long ago, I know firsthand the heartbreak. The "big bank" I went through finally came through with plans to help their clients - 8 months after I'd lost my home. I was one of those who fell through the 'cracks'. I hope my donation has helped; I've bookmarked this page and am sharing it. - and thank you so much for your donation to my fundraising - trying to get home to my brother in NC. http://www.fundanything.com/en/pages/twofer-campaign-help-a-gal-and-help-her-veteran-brother/share God bless you! Hang in there!

  • Thank you Luna! I am not packing it in anytime soon! Your help really means a lot to me and you put a smile on my partner's face (which is priceless to me). I am the rightful home owner in this case, but my poor partner has probably had more stress over this than I have. He is one to worry a lot. As I said before, please let other's know. Again, thank you so much! Much love from Seattle, WA!

  • I am acquiring a property myself and I can imagine the stress you and your partner are going through, fearing you will lose the place you have both called home. I can't do much but I'm bookmarking this page and will hopefully be able to help more in the next coming months. All the best and good luck.
