About This Campaign

Hi, my name is Shane Phillips. I am a veteran of the U.S. Army and a veteran law enforcement officer. 1995 started my daily challenges of dealing with PTSD. This has cost me relationships and lost time and opportunities with those closest to me.

For more than a year I have been searching for an outlet to obtain a service dog for PTSD.  I have hit road block after road block in my journey.  Just recently I was connected through an old friend with a trainer here in the Waco, TX area who selects, trains, and certifies service dogs.  Sandy Wittliff has been a God send.  She has offered assistance in choosing an animal, training, and certification at reduced costs to me.  Personal experience with someone suffering from PTSD, she understands the importance of this type of animal and the positive impact they can have on the person in need, as well as their family.

I've always been a "do it myself" type of person.  Saying that, this process has taught me to ask for help.  So, I'm asking for help.  A little or a lot.  Anything and everything helps.  My family is my purpose and I will do everything I can to take care of them and not take from them.

The process of selection, training, and certification of the animal takes approximately one year. Average costs vary from $1,000-$4,000 per animal. My dog will be a rescue animal because I firmly believe we all deserve second chances. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to updating you all as we go through this journey together.

Regardless of your decision right now, thank you sincerely for reading, and thank you for caring enough to read.

God Bless,

Shane Phillips

    Exciting Update

Thank you all for your support and donations! I hope to be adding another important update soon.  I'm like a little kid before Christmas waiting to hear.  My trainer is evaluating dogs this week and we may find a match.  One good candidate was snatched up over the weekend, but I know I will get the dog I'm meant to have.

Work continues day to day to keep moving forward and the overwhelmingly positive response has kept me driving on.

    Thank you all!

    God bless,

The journey continues of course.  The last couple of weeks have been a major roller coaster of up and down emotions and triggers.  On September 28, 2012 one of my best and closest friends, a comrade, one hell of a warrior, was killed in Wardak Afghanistan.  SFC Riley Stephens and I went to school together and as the years passed and experiences were lived and survived we became closer and closer.  Being from a small town like ours, almost everyone is family by default, but Riley and Ken and their dad Mic are all like brothers.  We laid my brother to rest on October 7th 2012 and continue to mourn his loss and celebrate the blessing of having him in our lives.  Riley was serving with the 1/3 Special Forces Group (Airborne) as the senior medic on the team.&...

    The beginning of our journey

Most who know me personally know just how hard it is for me to ask for help.  Even when I need it, and have exhausted all other options, most times I still refuse to ask.  I'm working on that and this is one of the ways I am doing so.  When I initially started this I reached out to a friend who just blew me away with her enthusiasm, energy, and dedication to helping me.  Pamela Kramer is pretty awesome.  We met during a team race near Houston and completed the Spartan Challenge.  Even though we're friends and keep up with each other's lives she wasn't fully aware of how things are for me.  After our initial message about this she literally blew up my phone with questions and comments and guidance.  Overwhelmed, all I could respond was to say th...
