My Heart, My Home

My name is Thanus (tah-noosh), I am 24 years old and I live in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.  I am in school to become a teacher of Electrical skills.  I was a student at St. Michael's where I am lucky to learn and speak English.  I volunteer my time everyday to help my mentor and dear friend Father Lloyd, a Jesuit Priest from New Orleans Louisiana, who came to this island over 60 years before.

I live with my Mother, a retired school teacher, and two older sisters.  Our small house has only one big room with kitchen and one bathroom.  My life is happy and we are lucky to have each other.  We live behind our bigger house that we are building for over six years now, it is almost complete.

This house is most important to me and my family, because in my culture (Tamil) -  My sister cannot take a husband until this house is built, and I cannot take a wife until my sisters are married.

My sister is a nurse and all monies each month go to a bank loan that has built the house for these six years.  The loan was not enough and no more money is possible.  Only doors, windows and a security fence is needed now for us to live in our house.

Family is most important in my culture.  Please help my family even if it is small help.  I dream of having a family of my own and thank you one million times for you help.
