Missionary Cookbook

At our house, it’s all about food.  When the kids started to leave the nest Mom started writing down recipes so that none of her offspring would starve.  Now that four of the eight children are adults, we have gained a lot of knowledge as to what may be helpful to young single adults in the kitchen.  We have a good deal of experience with college kids, working singles and missionaries. 

Our two returned missionary sons have learned that you don’t have a lot of time to think about planning and cooking when you are a missionary.  They also learned that some missionaries were at a bit of a loss in the kitchen.  Since Mom has some recipes that would suit even beginning chefs and she likes to organize, an idea was born.  Why not create a cookbook for missionaries?  A cookbook that can yield the most amount of healthy food with the most amount of flavor in the least amount of time for the least amount of money. 

What's in the book?

• Greenie recipes (for the novice in the kitchen)
• Trainer recipes (for someone with a hint of confidence in the kitchen)
• Trunkie recipes (for those who are would like a little more challenge)
• Weekly menu plans (with everything spelled out for you)
• Conversion charts
• Shopping lists
• Suggestions of food to eat to round out the meal
• Kitchen essentials guide
• Scripture verses that go along with the recipes
• Missionary cartoons

Since our second and rather artistic son had just returned from serving others on a mission, we put him to work drawing missionary cartoons for a cook book.  You can get some good laughs out of these.

We like doing goofy things together.  So to make this cookbook more of a family project, we decided to enlist the whole lot of us to make a short film.  We had a lot of fun with it.  The kids especially liked it when Mom felt like she was about to be dropped by Dad.  Here we are being goofy on other occasions:

We really want to help missionaries, and others, who are feeling the need to maximize their time and money spent on planning for, cooking and otherwise preparing meals.  Creating this book is a big undertaking, so that is why we are asking for your help to get it finished up.

 When will the book be ready for purchase? 

It is our goal to have books ready for purchase in September of 2014.
