We all say that we should talk more about mental health, so that's exactly what volunteers at Minds Like Ours are going to be doing for a whole 24 hours! From 6pm on the 22nd November to 6pm on the 23rd November, up to 10 volunteers will be talking in front of their computers, and in front of the World, about mental health. We will be streaming a Google Hangout live to YouTube for those 24 hours, so that everyone has the chance to get involved.

We'll be talking about all aspects of mental health, as well as including some fun and games too. We'll be taking part in Q&A sessions, MH related quizzes and hopefully be talking to some experts to see what they make of it all too.

Who are Minds Like Ours?

Minds Like Ours (affectionately known as MiLO) is a mental health support community set up and run by those with mental health disorders. All of the decisions are made by the members, which means that everyone gets a say in how MiLO is run.

There are various ways that MiLO is there to provide mental health support, including peer to peer advice through our forums and Facebook groups. We also provide a range of helplines for those who need more professional help, that we are yet unable to provide.

As well as providing support we also aim to raise mental health awareness. Using vlogs, blogs, social media, events and campaigns such as this; MiLO aims to change the general opinion that those with a mental health disorder are crazy, mad or dangerous.

How can I get involved?

There's many ways to get involved with Minds Like Ours and our 24 hour talk, or our other campaigns. We have our very own mental health forum which is there for people to get and give support, as well as share their ideas about how we can raise mental health awareness.

If you want to be involved with our sponsored 24 hour talk then we are always looking for guest speakers. Whether you're an expert by experience, or trained in the field of MH, we're looking for people to come and chat with us. You can be with us for 10 minutes or 10 hours, it's completely up to you!

Where does the money go?

The most important question! Minds Like Ours is currently aiming to raise the £5,000 needed to become a registered charity. Although we are currently a non-profit organisation it would be incredible to reach out to more people with registered charity status.

We use the money we raise in a number of ways, including holding events for our members to meet with likeminded people (whilst raising awareness at the same time), keeping the website and forum up and running, spreading the word about our support and much more.

In the future we would like to raise enough to set up our own helplines, create 'safe spaces' across the UK, attend schools and workplaces to talk about mental health, hold huge worldwide events and plenty more. We've got lots of ideas, so take a look through our forum to see the rest of them.

Thank you...

For all those who have got involved, want to get involved or have even just sent a tweet out about us; thank you. We couldn't do what we do without your support and time!
