Melanie’s Cancer treatment

Hi, My name is Melanie Hicks, I am 37 years old, married with two young children. For those that don't know me, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2012. I had numerous surgeries to remove Tumours and a mastectomy, followed up with the standard Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. All was going well until a new lump appeared a year later at the original site, after an initial scan, I was told the Cancer had returned and had also spread to my Liver, Ribs and spine. Back on oral Chemotherapy for a few months, it was soon discovered this was having no effect, so I sought alternative therapy. In the meantime the Cancer had also spread to my leg and pelvis. By this time the pain in my spine had become unbearable and I could barely walk. I found a new Chemo treatment in Frankfurt called TACE (unavailable on the NHS) and managed to get it done in December 2014. I had to use a wheelchair by this time to get there, it was a real struggle to say the least. After the treatment I was able to walk out of the Hospital with no pain. Within three days the tumours in my chest had visibly shrunk and I have had no back pain until recently. The results of my latest scan this week show the Chemo pill has again had no affect, and I now have some new Cancer cells that have appeared in my spine, Liver and various other places. (The original tumours have remained stable and not increased, since Frankfurt) We desperately need to get back to The University of Frankfurt Hospital to have another Chemo treatment, unfortunately it carries a large cost, and we are struggling to meet it, hence my page here. I hope you can help, no matter how large or small it really will save a life...mine and enable me to watch my children grow up alongside my husband. Thank you. Melanie x
