                                                               Appeal for donations

This Christmas we are hoping to have raised enough money to finish building a new home for mentally challenged and orphan children in our region of Tamil Nadu, South India.

If successful, we will provide education and rehabilitation services for 20 mentally challenged (MC) and orphan children as a residential program.  The children are from very poor families who cannot provide them with the care they need. In this home, the children will receive education, rehabilitation, better nutrition, physiotherapy, medical treatment etc. They will be cared for by a loving family strongly committed to social and charitable causes in the area and their volunteers.

 The structure so far

We have previously raised enough money for the building’s external structure. We now need donations for plaster and cement to finish it off, as well as some physiotherapy tools, food and medical expenses for the children.

Hari is one of two MC children we currently care for. When he first arrived he was incapable of feeding himself, speaking, or even sitting up. Now he can do all three! He is very weak after suffering from polio as a child, but he is now able to do some arm and hand exercises. He especially loves doing fast high-fives! For you yoginis, we’re also slowly getting somewhere with Kirtan Kriya finger movements. He can tuck into his grub, ask for water and is communicating more every day. He loves to laugh and there is always someone around to entertain him.

A trip to the beach

At the moment, his brother and sister have to carry him across the other side of the campus whenever he needs to defecate before bringing him back to clean him up. He currently sleeps on the floor in the food prep area. He wears a nappy but there are some obvious hygiene issues. With the new house we would provide special toilets and sleeping areas for him and care for 19 other children like him.

. I know this time of year places many demands on the wallet, but please consider if you are able to contribute. No amount is too small - every little really does help!

We hope to raise £1,000 to finish the building. If we get the money, I will be doing some of the plastering and construction myself! ...the more we raise, the more chance I have to learn how to make the stuff stick to the walls. ;)

Loads of love – Jess and all at ISSI x
