Stella has lived in her house for the past 45 years and now at the age of 89 is struggling to keep the house in running order and paying for basic necessities. She hasn't had gas since the beginning of last year when Atlanta had that major ice storm. Her gas bill got out of hand and she wasn't able to pay the suddenly huge bill. Her stove is broken and she has been using a George Foreman grill, an electric tea kettle and microwave to cook the little bit of food she eats. She only has working electricity in a few rooms and is currenlty using a space heater to heat up her bedroom. She is a feisty, active, church going young lady and can't imagine that people would want to help her. We have an electric stove for her and a great local volunteer organization, Neighbor In Need, will be helping to fix her electricity but to get the gas turned back on the outstanding debt needs to be paid. We want to help Stella pay this $925 bill and get her set up with a lower cost service that should be available to her. Any additional funds will be used make house repairs and set up any additional services she needs (grocery delivery, etc.) Stella is a fantastic neighbor and her stories are simply a gift to us all. (She was apparently the first "colored" person in the neighborhood. Her words.) She never thought to ask for help and was simply trying to "make do" with what she could. We can do better than that! Please help if you can, every little bit counts. Let's make this holiday season something truly special for her.
