Charles “Chuck” Lawton is a good hearted man with four wonderful and kind-hearted girls....the oldest being 16 and the youngest only 3 weeks old, born on his own birthday. He likes to live his life by the Golden Rule - “Do unto others as you would have done unto you” On June 13, 2013, Chuck was on a break during his work shift when he and a co-worker noticed what seemed to be two men breaking into a car in the parking lot. We now know that the unknown men were massively damaging a vehicle with intense passion. Chuck and his co-worker hurried over to try and stop them. The vandals fled and they pursued them. While the co-worker tried to get a license plate number and called the police, Chuck placed himself in front of the car in hopes of stopping their get away. Instead, the vandals ran him over and dragged his body under their car, causing extensive and horrific injuries. The doctors are estimating that Chuck will be in the hospital for the next 2-3 months and possibly longer. He will have to endure many surgeries to repair all of the injuries that he has and each time he goes under or they cut into him, it opens him up to infection. He has already had 3 surgeries...during one they found a ruptured spleen which was removed and also infection in all of the wounds. They were cleaned out as best as they could and seem to be holding steady for now. He has 3rd and 4th degree burns and road rash on more than 60% of his body. During an MRI, they also found a broken collar bone. His left arm and right hand were damaged so severely that it is a great possibility that he will have to have both amputated. At this time, he is under such heavy sedation that he is not conscious. Chuck's fiance, Amanda, is devoted to him, by his side every second she can and supporting him throughout this whole ordeal. The downfall of this is the stress and worry of bills, both medically and day-to-day living for their family. With Amanda just recently giving birth, Chuck was the breadwinner, but since he was employed through a temp agency, he was not given benefits such as medical insurance. There are government programs that will help cover the medical costs which is a huge weight removed, but that doesn't account for the present, everyday living expenses (food, gas, rent, utilities, diapers, formula, etc). Amanda is such a strong woman that even with these troubles, she's always there for Chuck and is totally focused on his health and well-being. Chuck's family has set up this fundraiser to try and reach out to as many people as we can to raise money for their family to survive during this horrific time. With all the injuries, it may be a while before Chuck is able to work and if the amputation is done, possibly he may never work. We would like to lessen the stress for them by providing their family with funds so they can keep their focus on him. We understand that not everyone can give....please remember that prayers are always welcome and considered a blessing to all of us that have been touched by this tragedy. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, donations, and support. Please share this with all that you know!!!
