ALS has a formidable foe in Charleston’s

“Lone Elder Abuse Investigator”

Elisabeth Spencer

Care For Life, provider of homecare services and geriatric care management, is hosting a special fundraiser for dear friend, Elisabeth Spencer. Elisabeth and Care For Life share a passion for protecting the elderly.

Making a difference, one life at a time!

Elisabeth’s career in eldercare advocacy began in the evidence room at the Charleston Police Department where she worked tirelessly to build an extensive program dedicated to helping and rescuing abused seniors. The program expanded rapidly to Elisabeth receiving up to 350 calls a month concerning seniors' well-being and safety.

Who would answer the call for help?

Local police departments, hospitals, the mental health professionals, homecare agencies, and Probate and Court had Elisabeth on speed dial when confronted with elder abuse cases.

As Senior Services Coordinator and Senior Advocate for the Charleston Police Department Elisabeth went at all hours of the day and night into horrible conditions often to rescue abused seniors. Attorneys and judges in the probate system effected guardianship and conservatorship protection for older persons with Elisabeth’s advocacy. Her passion for protecting the elderly gave her the reputation of being  true hero.

She's a fighter!

Early in 2013, Elisabeth was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. This neurodegenerative disease affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. As a result, basic motor functions such as walking, talking, swallowing and breathing become increasingly difficult. There is no cure for ALS.

Now that she is waging a personal health battle, she needs help from her friends.

Elisabeth needs medical equipment, personal care assistants and treatment to help manage her ALS symptoms. She requires treatment which is available in a specialized medical center in North Carolina. Traveling is physically, emotionally and financially draining.

Because her debilitating illness doesn’t allow her to perform basic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and bathing it will become necessary to have personal care. Home modifications are a serious consideration to allow for easier mobility and accessibility.

How can you be her hero?

YOUR generosity is priceless. Elisabeth did the work for our seniors that no one else wanted to. Join us to help Elisabeth cover the travel expenses and the medical costs and treatments.

Don't wait. Take a few minutes now and make your online donation. Your sharing this site on Facebook and to your email contacts will make this a great success.
