Hello!  There is a school outside of Moshi, Tanzania and it needs our help. The school is called Mlima Public School.  It needs a water pipe because the school doesn’t have any water so the kids come to school everyday carrying a bucket of water.  The school is in a desert and there are 42 kids in each class. This school is an elementary school that has 150 kids.  Their bathrooms are like outhouses with no water. They wear uniforms like us and wore sweaters even when it is 90F outside. The school’s windows don’t have glass.  When I visited the school they sang a song in Swahili.  I would like to help this school because everybody needs water, and the kids shouldn’t have to carry it to school.  To build a water pipe to the school will cost $2500. Can you please help me raise the money to put a water pipe in this school?   Sincerely, Reid (11-years old, attendee of International School of Moshi & Nativity School, Menlo Park, California)

Mlima Public Primary School Project: New Water Pipe Installation

Purpose:  To install a water pipe carrying drinking water to Mlima public school in Mlima, Tanzania.

Cost: $2500

Duration:  2 months

Description:  West of Moshi and Mount Kilimajaro in Northern Tanzania, the land is very arid and receives little annual rainfall, and families are dependent on wells for water.  Poverty is a way of life and affects the public schools servicing the children in those areas.  Mlima public school has 150 students and 5 teachers who would greatly benefit if there was running water at the school.  The school has asked that a water pipe be installed so that the students can have access to water during the school day. The local Tanzanian government is aware of the problem, but has no immediate plans with solutions.

The materials to install the water pipe are available locally as is the labor to install the pipe.  These would be: water-grade plumber’s pipe, pipe fittings, and manual labor and tools to manually dig the trench for the pipe.

Mlima Shabaha Schule students and faculty greatly appreciate the water pipe and your support. The work and the materials are ready to go, but we are in "red tape" with the local water company. They are holding up connecting the pipe to their waterline, mainly due to corruption. We are
