Alpha Phi Omega National Co-ed Service Fraternity was founded in 1925 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. The members live by the three cardinal principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service.  Alpha Phi Omega is open to all college students, and it has grown to over 369 active Chapters with over 377,000 members in the United States and has expanded to three other countries.

When we joined Alpha Phi Omega, we dedicated ourselves to helping make our world better, one project at a time, volunteering in four fields of service, “service to the community, service to the campus, service to the nation, and service to the fraternity”. We, and Chapters across the nation, volunteer with thousands of organizations each year such as Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Red Cross, Special Olympics, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts USA, countless food banks, children’s charities and health care organizations.  The Eta Psi Petitioning Group here at CSU Chico also works tirelessly to enrich the campus community as well. The Chapter/Petitioning/Interest Group Name has been serving the Chico community and the CSU Chico campus for 1 years.

The four-day conference provides us the opportunity to develop our own leadership skills by attending workshops, seminars and roundtables on topics such as membership recruitment and retention, communications and public speaking skills, officer training, public relations, fundraising, leadership styles, Parliamentary Procedure, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. There are also workshops on volunteer service dealing with topics such as planning and implementing a campus wide service project, working with youth, and working with non-profit organizations.  These workshops are taught by professional facilitators and volunteers alike.

After attending aNational Convention, We will take these skills back to our local communities and plan better service projects, and more effectively run our Chapters.  Having learned about the benefits of service to those we help, we also learn about ourselves and our place in humanity.
