As a biology student at Exeter University, I am raising money to go to the Iwokrama rainforest in Guyana this summer where I will be volunteering as a research assistant alongside academics and specialists. Our common goal will be the study of local habitats, and the species which live in them, including Giant River Otters, Black Spider Monkeys and various big cats, among many others. This vital research will be used in all similar rainforests to protect the world's biodiversity. As well as working with plants and animals, Operation Wallacea help local communities to develop long-term plans allowing them to use resources from their surroundings in a responsible and sustainable way. My target of £2215 covers just the cost of the expedition, I am currently fundraising through other methods to raise the money needed for flights, internal travel and equipment, as well as miscellaneous costs such as vaccinations and VISAs.
