Campaign Story
My name is Emma, and I'm a 10-year-old Boxer who has been with my human since I was 8 weeks old. She works at home doing court transcription and usually makes enough to feed me and get me toys now and then. Our roommate/landlord started boarding anxious dogs in December, and the noise and distractions have made caused Mom's income drop from $1,500 a month to less than $100 a month. We have moved, and Mom has returned to work, so that will be changing. We will never be rich, but in May, she will get a paycheck that will cover the rent and necessities.
Mom's son and his father will be having kidney surgery soon. Their son is not a match, but his kidney donation will move his father up on the list. Mom wants to be with her loved ones during their surgeries. The majority of the donations she has received thus far need to be repaid as they are from her son's father, who needs dialysis three times a week. He must be repaid.
We beseech the smallest of donations and give our most heartfelt thanks to any help!

Goal Reached, But ...
Update posted by kamcbrair at 10:26 amThe fundraiser does not show a $100 refund, and our biggest benefactor needs to be paid back nearly $1,200 as he is not working and in need of a kidney transplant. Another $40 has been repaid. In reality, only $105 of the funds raised are actual donations that do not. . . . .
We Have a Bed!
Update posted by kamcbrair at 10:45 amThanks to a local agency, yesterday I got a mattress for the bed and boxspring that I got from someone else. So as far as furniture goes, nothing else is critical. Emma broke in the bed properly by some good gas passes (yep, she's a Boxer), and we slept in
Made the move
Update posted by kamcbrair at 09:11 amWe have made the move to our new digs! (Many, MANY thanks to Mark and Pastor Tom, who put us in touch.) Thanks also to Shirley, who enabled phone and internet connection so I can start seeking new transcription work. Thanks to Myland, the rent got paid, and Emma got. . . . .
Stripe Funds Won't Get to Us
Update posted by kamcbrair at 11:32 amWe learned today that any donations via Stripe will not be deposited to my account, but I have updated PayPal so that donors can pay as guests without joining PayPal. A generous donor has enabled us to come up with enough for the rent, which is a huge relief; but
One step forward and two back
Update posted by kamcbrair at 08:58 pmTwo days of dog food left with no cash, and I got a letter from my security deposit funding source saying they will not pay the security deposit if I get help from an agency to pay the first month's rent. Aaaagh!
A Big Blessing
Update posted by kamcbrair at 03:14 pmMany thanks and blessings to my $100 donor. (I know who you are!)
Luck of the Irish? Great News!
Update posted by kamcbrair at 10:53 amThis morning, I received an e-mail that funding has been located for me for the new apartment, so my monthly rent will be $282 per month instead of $510. This is the best St. Patrick's Day I've ever had!

Thank you, Kate! Yes, poverty is a bit like quicksand -- it's a struggle to get out, and I'm finding that it makes it even more important to surround yourself with supportive, positive people who really want you to succeed. No need to apologize -- every little bit helps, and giving anything at all is still giving. Thank you again from Emma and me.
