It was always the best place to be, the place you were sure to be fed well and listened to. Where a friendly smile and a huge hug put everything right. A place where stories were shared and many laughs were had. A place where I always knew I was safe. My Nana's Kitchen....
But then I lost my dear Nana in May 2013, my world stopped, the one sure thing that was always there was now gone. My heart was truly broken and I still miss her so much that it physically hurts.
Seven days almost to the minute since my Nana went to be with my Dad and Grampa again they sent us a beautiful gift, a little soul to fix us all and I became a Grandmother to Rowan at the grand old age of 39.
EVERYTHING changed from that moment, I had a new purpose, I had to step up to the mark finally and show my family how Nana would have done things. I had to grow up.
I've been going to festivals since 2008, Glastonbury 2008 started on June 25th and it seemed the right place to remember my Dad who had died the year before on the same date. Since then I have worked at a few festivals and partied at many of them. I provide cakes for The Something Else Tea Tent run by Gail Something-Else.
At Something Else in the Dean last year Gail asked me would I like to cater her future events and I jumped at the opportunity knowing that at some point before festival season I was a benefactor in my Nana's Will.
Since then I have spent every penny getting Nana's Kitchen; a vegetarian and vegan field kitchen, up and running. We entered this market with no prior knowledge, we've made a few mistakes due to this lack of knowledge but we know this is going to work.
So this is where we are at, ALL of our previously purchased gas equipment does not carry the CE mark. Without this mark we cannot get our LPG gas kitchen certified. Our maiden voyage this weekend was thanks to South West Event Hire being able to hire out a range oven to us at the very last minute. The kind gent there even gave me a discount when he heard my plight. Thank you if you ever get to read this!
Our first outing taught us so many things, people LOVE the food. I have got that right at least! THIS is why I know this will work with the right set up. We need to purchase a new oven, a water boiler, a marquee, chairs for the customers and we need to have a custom built serving, preparation and cooking area.
So we need to raise funds as quickly as possible to get the job done, so Nana's Kitchen can move forward. This is where I am asking for your help. In return when you visit Nana's kitchen I will give you a plate of delicious food. Now Nana's Kitchen food prices aren't high, prices start at £1 and the most you will ever pay for a meal is £6. So anything you can donate would be appreciated.
I thank you in advance for reading this and supporting me so far in my venture, with such amazing friends I will never fail. Love to you all xxx
