Campaign Story
Candice got diagnosed with acute myloid lukemia at the end of January 2015, when Bobby was just 3 months old. She Was taken in straight away for intense chemotherapy. Once back at home she had days when she couldn’t walk and tony her husband had to carry her to the toilet and he had to help her in and out of the bath, financially they were struggling anyway, now it’s just got harder and harder.
Tony has had to become Candice’s full time carer as well as taking care of Bobby. This will not change for a very long time as we know the first 2 years is vital in her care and wellbeing.
They then found out they had to move as the house had damp, any infection could kill her and as if that wasn’t stressfull enough some of there furniture had to be thrown away due to the damp getting into the soft furnishings. The move was very hard and stressful for them both especially Candice. They had to use all there money and borrow a lot as well, so they could replace there furniture, they had to buy 2nd hand to manage that.
Some days they are so down and worry about how they are going to cope. Then this week the benefits they should have got stopped due to the move and change of address,so this is now being investigated. Everybody in the hospital and citizen advice office say there is lots of help out there for them, but nothing seems to be happening
Then the last straw was when they found out that they should have been getting DLA for quite some time prior to the illness but someone else fraudulently claimed it and there seems to be nothing they can do to recoup some of what they have lost.
Even though it was reported to the police and the DWP
Not knowing what the future held made them want to get married sooner rather than later and they managed to do that in March, they even managed to have a great day and put there fears to one side.
Candice goes into hospital on Wednesday 13th may for chemo and a bone marrow transplant. The hospital is miles away and it is £30 per night for tony and Bobby to stay some of the time, so that she has them close. They just need a break and financially this money would ease some of the strain and make life a bit easier.
Please share there story
Just wanted to update so far. Candice started her chemo yesterday (13th may) she has four lots a day for a week. She had a very severe reaction to one of them. She will be given it again today (14 May) as it’s part of the treatment to prepare her body for the bone marrow transplant. They will be prepared for the reaction this time though. Tony has not left her side yet. So asked me to update you.

Start of long journey
Update posted by Thornton281 at 10:36 pmWe Knew that this first 2 days of chemo was going to be the worst chemo you can have. But we were not prepared for the way Candice's body reacted to it. Neither were the doctors. Tony said all of a sudden the room was full of doctors and nurses,. . . . .
