Campaign Story
After Grandpa Grapentin was denied a residence visa due to having an 'unacceptable standard of health' because of Multiple Myeloma we were told that he could no longer enter NZ without a visa. So when he wanted to visit the grandchildren this year we applied for a temporary visa providing immigration with evidence of his intention to return to South Africa, and doctor's letter that he was having chemo and will need to return for more treatment, as well as proof of medical insurance which will cover cost overseas. We believed that because he was only intending to stay for less than a month that he would be granted a temporary visa.
However, we realise now that they never intended to grant him this visa and continually give us the excuse of his health which we already knew about and which was the reason why we had to apply for the visa in the first place. Immigration has happily exploited the sick and vulnerable with no intention of ever granting a visa. Therefore there is no chance of him ever being able to travel to visit the grandchildren ever. And now instead of one person travelling to see 7 people, 7 of us have to travel to see 1.
The cost is enormous, but we would like to be able to bring the whole family to see him and bring him some cheer next Christmas since he missed out on this one because of immigration. He has not seen 2 out of 5 of his grandchildren since his visit almost 4 years ago.We would like to do this hopefully while he is still well enough to enjoy the children, and for the children to have some memories of their grandfather as he will never be able to come to see them, and his condition can never be cured.
This trip will cost us at least 15,000 NZD (approx. 10,000USD). We can afford 2 adult tickets, and granny will help pay for 1 ticket, so we now have to raise funds for 3 child tickets to make this trip possible. We would be really grateful for any help be it great or small. I hate asking from friends, if only everyone could just give 1 dollar and share with their friends to give a dollar. I wonder if we could raise $6000 that way?

Update posted by Vivian Grapentin at 09:37 amThank you to all of you who have so thoughtfully and generously supported us :) I am humbled and touched by your kindness. These days with the kids back at school and after school activities we haven't had much time to go around the neighbourhood selling fudge, but the girls. . . . .
