  • Just wanted to share with you a few of the young people your gifts will be going to this Christmas...

A 17 year old with a 2 year old bub who was born at 27 weeks – so as you can imagine there are lots of health issues that the pair have ...
    to deal with.

A 14 year old girl struggling with self harm issues who has been brought up thinking family violence is the norm.

A 13 year old, his 10 year old and 4 year old brothers whose mother has extensive mental health issues and who have been exposed to family violence.

A 12 year old girl whose mum died when she was 18 months old and whose dad is aggressive and violent.

A 12 year old girl, her 13 year old severely disabled brother and 2 year old sister who live below the poverty line and have witnessed family violence.

All of these kids are AMAZING, INSPIRING and have HOPE FOR THE FUTURE! They are the reason I go to work every day!

Thank you all for your support!!!

    Postman only rang once!
Update posted by Amber Langham On Dec 01, 2012

Postie stopped by today to deliver some of the deadly pressies! Alas his knock and the dogs barking were not enough to wake me from my slumber so I missed him!  Hopefully he will stop by again tomorrow so I can put some more photos up of the pressies that will be going to the kids I work with!!

There are 12 kids that I work with that these gifts will be benefiting!  Ages range from 2 and a half to 17 - the 2 and a half year old is the son of one of the 17 year olds.  Majority of the kids I work with are in the 12 to 15 bracket and all have shocking stories to tell.

All that separates me from these young people is a bit of luck - that I was born into a stable and supportive family.  I am reminded everyday of just how lucky I am!

    First gifts arrive
Update posted by Amber Langham On Nov 29, 2012

Had the first of many gifts arrive - 2 snapback caps which I know will just blow two of my kids away!  Waiting on three scooters, some art supplies, a wooden toy work bench and deadly tow truck - all of which are now on their way and should be here by this time next week.  I can't wait to put them all in a big pile so that I can take a photo and show all of you what I have been able to get.  Thank you all again so much for your support!!!

This is a terrific initiative. Love the idea of matching kids with presents they really want - makes it less about abstract charity (not that there's anything wrong with that) and more about really directly helping the people you're working for. Great idea.
