We are asking your giving to support our efforts to build and sustain an international outreach initiative aimed to bring Capoeira Angola to youths in Washington, DC and in the Carribean. Capoiera Angola is a hybrid dance-martial art that incorporates martial arts, movement, acrobatics, musicality, and oral expression. Capoeira is indigenous to Brazil, but it’s following has spread all over the world. Programa Vamos Vadiar (Vamos Vadiar Kids Program) is a youth development program in which Capoeira Angola is used as a medium for self-expression, development(social-emotional; cognitive; corporal awareness; etc), and the stimulation of various forms of intelligence. Vadiar or vadiando, traditionally had the connotation of “wasting time; loafing; or hanging out” but is used affirmatively in Capoeira circles to refer to playing the game of Capoeira. The benefits of Capoeira to youth development are surpassing expectations. The Vamos Vadiar Program builds on the idea that children of all backgrounds can learn and grow through structured play and culturally based activity. We are committed to the teaching and cultural exchange of traditional Capeoria Angola to children of all ages in communities that might not have access otherwise.

Your support has made it possible to take part in the International Capoeira Angola Foundation’s 20th International Conference: Cultura Viva de Transformacao. We have successfully offered free and low cost classes as part of our outreach in St. Croix, St Thomas and St John. Ever determined to reach our goals, we have renewed the campaign because our work is not done until it's done! Capoeira is a remarkable vehicle for bolstering resilience in communities where conditions are marginal. St Croix with it's rising poverty rate (above 78%) and crime. Dominica, devastated by floods in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika. Most of us never have to worry about these conditions in our day-to-day but we can do something about the impact they have on our neighbors to the South. While we can't turn a light on in every home, we can turn lights on in every heart we encounter.

Capoeira is for everyone. Let's see how this African-Brazilian legacy that's changed so many lives in Brazil and abroad can touch hearts and minds in the communities we've committed to in St. Croix, St Thomas, St John, and soon Dominica, St Vincent, and Puerto Rico. We thank you for all that you've done to support our work with these children and their communities. Please make an effort today to get us that much closer to our goals. Please contribute to our campaign and share with friends and family! We welcome your words of encouragement as well.

  • These are the programs that truly uplift communities, but get very little recognition and even less funding. Kojo has spent his life dedicated to educating and building capoeira programs locally and internationally. His generous efforts and tireless community-building activities has given countless children the opportunity to be nurtured and to grow strong mentally and physically through Brazilian Art, Play and Musicality. Please join me and donate to this very worthy cause!

  • Thanks alot for your support! As you can see it hasn’t been easy but I am proud to be representing in a small way the legacy of my Mestre Cobra Mansa. It was he (along w/ Mestre Moraes, Mestre Jurandir, and Mestre Valmir) who taught us the importance of uplifting and "educando" the youth through Capoeira.
