Campaign Story
Carol Highton MBE, a much loved Runcorn mum who became the figurehead of a national crackdown on loan sharks, has passed away at the weekend after a two-year fight with cancer.
Her work inspired victims to come forward and the national loan shark busting team to achieve a string of major convictions of illegal lenders.
After enduring chemotherapy for her cancer only for the condition to return, Carol decided to stop treatment so that her final months would be less painful on her family.
Instead she chose to access palliative care at Halton Haven Hospice, a facility that impressed her such that she made it her final battle to publicise the hospice’s work.
Carol was without life insurance and the shock illness left her without time to secure enough funding to cover funeral costs.
With a heavy heart we would like to ask people to donate what they can to help give Carol the send off she deserves.
