ArtsAble has been running from 2011 to fill a huge gap since the closure of day centres within the local boroughs.

We provide art and craft workshops combined with music and sensory relaxation which is designed specifically to develop creative and social skills for adults with learning difficulties.

The produce from these classes are unique, compared to others, as our clients have the opportunity to refurbish furniture from old to new, providing understanding of environment and recycling alongside crafts such as silk painting, tie dying, decoupatch, woodwork, driftwood, sculpting, button art and loads more exciting projects.

The relaxation and sensory aspect to our sessions incorporate an established and researched exercise known as 'Tapac' to help sensory and neurological impairment, development delay and multiple learning difficulties. It provides an emotionally safe framework for clients to make contact with their own bodies, their environment, other people and develop a relationship with these.

Our clients have had an opportunity to be part of our mini enterprise selling craft items to fund further materials, activities and excursions. It has been such a wonderful experience for our clients to be part of this, but also for us to see the development of confidence and social interaction between themselves and the public.

The classes do not just benefit our clients creativity but develop fine motor skills exploring the senses, social and self confidence, self esteem and making relationships with piers.

Although we have produced exceptional and diverse craft pieces we have struggled to finance this requiring clients fees to be out of reach for some. This saddens us as our beliefs are inclusive and and want to reach out to those who need us the most.
