Many elderly are alone at Christmas because their families are no longer in the community or spouses have passed away.
I am organising a Christmas party for the elderly on 13/12/15 at Hillsborough Stadium (Charleston Suite) between 5-9pm to try and alleviate the pain of loneliness. Volunteers will give of our elderly guests the gift of smiles, laughter and companionship whilst donations will give the volunteers the tools to provide this gift. I hope to host up to 100 elderly guests who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone, in order to support Age UK's recent 'No-one should have no-one' campaign.
The plan for our elderly guests include:
A Christmas sing-along
A wonderful pianist and classical singer
A male swing singer
A female vintage 1940's singer
A jazz dance performance
A Christmas buffet
A Christmas raffle
Tea, coffee, biscuits and a bottle of wine on each table to bring in the Christmas cheer
A Christmas gift for each elderly guest, presented by Santa himself.
Transport to and from the event
ALL FOR FREE!!!
However, volunteers and donations are critical in making this event happen. As a trainee teacher, I need as much help as possible with covering the costs of transport to ensure that the elderly people in our community do not miss out on the chance to spend Christmas in the company of others.
Donations will also help to cover the costs of catering and 100 Christmas gifts for each of our guests so that they all have something to open on Christmas day.
Whether it's £1 or a £100, please donate what you can so that we can make sure that no elderly person in Sheffield spends Christmas alone.
Can you help?
Any contributions are much appreciated and will be acknowledged on the evening, which will be attended by Hallam FM and The Star, Sheffield.
To volunteer or find out more about the event, please send an email to [email protected] or find our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Christmasforourelderly/
